Our story
Why I started The AI Social
Hi, I’m Laura, the founder of The AI Social.
In my 40s, I decided to study artificial intelligence because it felt like a significant change in business, society and organisations, and I wanted to understand it properly. As I learned more, I became increasingly interested in how AI could be used responsibly and meaningfully. I also kept meeting brilliant women who were curious about AI but felt it was not really for them.
These are some of the things I heard.
“There’s too much jargon. Too much hype. I wouldn’t know where to begin.”
“I just don’t like AI.”
I kept coming back to the same thought. Many women still don’t have a relaxed and supportive space where they can explore AI without feeling behind, out of place or worried about asking a basic question.
That’s why I started The AI Social.
It is the informal, community-led space I felt was missing. Somewhere women can meet others, learn together and explore what AI could mean for work, creativity, business and everyday life.
Although I started the first chapter, it will grow through the ideas, interests and experiences of the women who join it. Come to an in-person meetup by yourself or bring a friend. Bring your curiosity and all the questions you think might be too basic.
The AI Social launches in September 2026. I’m looking forward to welcoming our first members and meeting you at one of our first events.

You don’t need to work in technology or understand AI already. Our community aims to include students, teachers, creatives, small business owners, professionals, parents, retirees and women returning to work. Come to listen, ask questions, experiment or simply meet new people. There is no right place to begin.
